The GSS360 Campaign is a comprehensive fundraising effort that touches the lives of every student. The Campaign will optimize every facet of school life, and each of its four pillars directly enhances the student experience now and in the future. With a historic $14.5 million fundraising goal, GSS360 is built on a simple premise: helping your children shine both today and in years to come.

What is our Vision?

By 2028, we will sustain and enhance our delivery of a premier, formative education through our people, places and programs, including:

• A state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center, Learning Commons and Athletic Facility.
• A commitment to whole child education meeting the academic, social/emotional, and health and wellness needs of all children.
• Endowment that exceeds national independent school standards, ensuring GSS remains at its best for generations of students and families to come.
• Investment in faculty development aimed at providing innovative approaches to learning and unparalleled preparation for high school.
• Admission to first-choice high schools for our graduates.

The GSS360 campaign will provide the resources our teachers need to launch confident, achievement-oriented, high-character students into their high schools of choice.

Campaign Priorities

  • Campus Enhancements

    Learning Enrichment Commons

A reimagined space for modern learners, the Learning Enrichment Commons project will be a critical space to support our students and elevate their academic outcomes throughout their time at Gulf Stream School.

    ● Access to one-on-one instruction and support as needed, both remedial and accelerated.

    ● Early intervention, including speech and language therapy.

    ● Flexible configurations to provide our learning support specialists and counselors appropriate venues for academic, social and emotional discussions.

    Performing Arts Center

Gulf Stream School’s community gathering and theater space will undergo a complete renovation to create a state-of-the-art performance center that meets the needs of our students and a welcoming, intimate and inviting space for the entire community. A more functional, dynamic space will open possibilities for expanded programming.

    ● Retains current capacity of 400 seats while improving sightlines and acoustics.

    ● New apron stage doubles the size of the performance area

    ● Fully ADA accessible

    ● Improved audio and lighting technology

    ● Dedicated control booth

    Athletic Complex

Strategic enhancements to our athletic facilities will help ensure that our students will continue to develop as athletes and are prepared for more competitive secondary school sports teams.

    ● Outdoor sports teams benefit from newly-installed natural turf and irrigation system

    ● New and enhanced seating and landscaping

    ● Gym improvements to reduce sounds and noise

  • Educational Experience

    Academic and Whole Child Education

As the secondary school landscape continues to become more competitive, it is essential that our students finish their middle school education knowing they are fully prepared for life beyond Gulf Stream School. The following campaign initiatives will enhance the current student experience and build stronger, more capable young people ready for the growing challenges that await them in high school:

    ● Expand partnerships with organizations to enhance a GSS education, focusing on SSAT test preparation, artificial intelligence, social/emotional learning, and new opportunities for additional enriching partnerships.

    ● Hire a Director of Learning Services who partners with parents and teachers to support students with different learning needs and provides mentoring for teachers to deliver accommodations and differentiated instruction.

    ● Hire two full-time learning specialists to support students of ranging abilities in mathematics and reading/language.

    ● Dean of Academics and Faculty- Observes and evaluates faculty, makes recommendations to the Head, and ensures all faculty are exceeding expectations for instruction and student support.

  • Investing in Faculty

    Faculty Excellence

An endowed fund will provide annual revenue in perpetuity and augment our ability to recruit, retain, and support the most talented educators. Gulf Stream School is known for its faculty who have a genuine love for teaching and children, promote growth mindset through their own modeling, and are supportive and collaborative. GSS will:

    ● Make a significant investment in our teachers by continuing to offer top-tier salaries while seeking new ways to augment compensation and benefits.

    ● Increase the number of faculty and staff members with advanced degrees by 10%, paying for those graduate programs.

    ● Support additional professional development opportunities focused on a variety of research-based teaching methods and best practices across independent schools.

  • Blue & White Fund

    Blue & White Fund

Gulf Stream School endeavors to maintain and increase the impact of the Blue and White Fund, our top philanthropic priority annually. Including the Blue and White Fund effort into the campaign ensures that GSS has the annual dollars to remain nimble, respond positively to teacher requests, and fulfill programmatic needs that emerge throughout the year. Support provides the Head of School and GSS leadership with the most flexibility to provide for our faculty and students today!

    ● Exceeding the goal allows GSS to say “YES” to additional programmatic needs in the visual and performing arts, core
curriculum enrichment, capital improvements, and maintenance of our facilities and grounds.
    ● Provides funding for equipment, technology, and critical learning materials to support STEM and Robotics programs
    ● Supports faculty innovation and creativity, and enables a visionary approach to instruction.
    ● Enhances the physical education and sports programs by training our coaches and providing new equipment and uniforms.
    ● Provides for robust experiential learning opportunities locally and beyond.
    ● Feasibility study to build and staff a high school
    ● Support the continued growth and evolution of Gulf Stream School’s two campuses

Donor Spotlight

Marc and Cortney Julien p '32, '35

“There is no investment you make with a greater return than investing in your child’s education, and we are very excited to see our money impact the Performing Arts Center. A place for the students to be creative, learn to work as a team and build the confidence to speak in front of a crowd are important building blocks for their future, instilling valuable and transferable skills in every child no matter where they end up in life. We also believe in the importance of leaving something in a better place than the way it was found. Our contribution will benefit our children in the short term, but more importantly, the goal for our donation is to ensure that it contributes to the long-term growth and improvement of the school for all students. We trust that our investment in GSS will elevate the school and, most importantly, the education of its students.”

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How is a campaign gift different from a Blue & White Fund contribution?

Campaign gifts are meant to help advance the initiatives described in the pillars on this page, addressing the needs of the School in the near and long-term future. Blue & White Fund contributions are spendable dollars put to immediate use, funding the day-to-day operations of the School.

Both are important to the overall strength of the School and its people, places and programs. We include the Blue & White Fund as a pillar of the campaign to simplify your philanthropic giving.  A gift can be a dual-purpose contribution, with funds allocated to both the present (Blue & White) and future (campaign). We work with the donor to determine specific allocation of a comprehensive gift.

  • What is an endowment?

An endowment, or endowed funds, are institutional investments. These funds are designed to keep the principal investment intact, and the annual interest earned can be used to pay for and support institutional expenses. Any unused interest (draw) is reinvested in the principal fund, subsequently earning compound interest in the years to come.

For example, a $1,000,000 endowed fund may return 8% interest annually, and the school’s policy is to draw 4% ($40k) for expenses. The unused $40k is reinvested in the endowment, bringing the principal balance to $1,000,040.

Endowed funds can be restricted for a specific purpose, or unrestricted discretionary funds.

  • Does the School accept multi-year pledges?

Yes! When considering a gift that is most meaningful to you and the School, we accept and encourage the structuring of a multi-year pledge. Having the flexibility to structure a gift over a greater period of time often allows donors to consider a more impactful level of giving.

  • Are gifts tax deductible?

Yes. As a non-profit institution, all gifts to Gulf Stream School are 100% tax-deductible.

  • What kind of gifts does the school accept?

Gulf Stream School accepts a number of different types of gifts beyond a traditional cash contribution: stocks, cryptocurrencies, real estate, and planned giving are all accepted, and per the School’s Gift Acceptance Policy, these exchanges will be converted to cash contributions upon receipt. Please contact the Development Office to discuss further.
